Union of Community Health Mutuals of the Littoral Region
Who are we?
The Union of Community Health Mutuals of the Littoral Region (UMUSACOL) is a regional platform of community social mutuals, created to federate, represent and support the health mutuals of the Littoral in promoting universal, supportive and sustainable health coverage.
A union serving community health
UMUSACOL is the umbrella organisation of community health social mutuals in the Littoral region. In 2023 it signed a partnership agreement with the Douala Urban Community (CUD), under the “One Commune, One Community Social Mutual” programme supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MINTSS).
The programme extends social protection to workers in the informal economy, to the destitute and to rural populations, complementing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Between 2023 and 2024, the union restructured 3 existing mutuals (Douala 1st, 4th and 5th), created 2 new mutuals (Douala 2nd and 3rd) and rolled out the “Douala Assur Tous” programme across the 5 communes, with 4 adapted health insurance products.

To strengthen solidarity among member mutuals and improve people’s access to quality health care, through pooling of resources, advocacy, capacity building and strategic partnerships.
